The Antisana Ecological Reserve offers a multitude of attractions; impressive landscapes, hikes through Andean and mountain forests, lakes and wildlife. The main attraction is the Antisana volcano (5704m) with its beautiful snow peaks.
The Antisana is Ecuador’s fourth highest volcano (5704m) and located in the Antisana Ecological Reserve.
The volcano is located in a peaceful and remote region and surrounded by splendid views such as the Sincholagua volcano and the magnificent peaks of the volcanoes Cotopaxi and Cayambe. The Antisana volcano is completely covered with snow and glaciers. This is the main reason why Antisana remains a rather unexplored peak.
The Antisana volcano is one of the hardest volcanoes to climb in Ecuador. Therefore, you won’t have the possibility to reach a refuge or the glacier. Hopefully, the Antisana Ecological Reserve is worth the visit and we offer the following visit:
Close by the volcano you find the Micacocha lagoon or Laguna la Mica which, apart from providing water for the capital, is famous for the large size of trout that can be caught here. The Micacocha lagoon is surrounded by ancient lava flows and there are several trails that you can follow to enjoy amazing views over the lake and the Andean Paramo surroundings.
Fallarones of Isco
Among the park’s natural features, the Fallarones of Isco stand out; a group of rock walls located close to the park. The Fallarones are one of the main resting and nesting places of the Andean condor, which you might see if you are lucky and the weather conditions are good! In the area it is also possible to observe other species of birds such as the Andean gull, Caracaras, ducks and different varieties of hummingbirds.
